Poetry from David Ishaya Osu

1.

CONVERSATION

think of a rain
without
a brain, think
of a fruit
without
a flesh, think
of a cake
by an april
fool, think
of a bull
without
a ball, think
of a tongue
without
a song, think
of your god
without
a gun, think
of the moods
without
a moon, think
of a sea
without
a seal, think
of tomorrow
tomorrow

2.

ABOUT THAT DAY

about that day
that you remove
from a calendar
and turn it
into a
museum
full of used nights
and unused
mornings
for a generation of blind owls
to come. that salt
in your sea you
do not want anyone
else to taste
during their periods.
even shoes look up, you
say
as a welcome
speech
to a procession
of dreams in need of vodka.
in the end, you want
to travel back to
your preface
but the hotel room door
says no
3.

OFFSIDE

he shot a film
behind
a mirror and
titled it
offside: a rainbow
is not heavy
on the wings of
a butterfly remembering
her first
first day
on air, telling the people
that a rainbow is
not heavy; but
a hill
of black bubbles
(sold in buttstores)
the white python
couldn’t swallow
after its forty days
of living
in white house
without a sip of
white wine
