Poetry from J.J. Campbell

on an old radio

the pain of another
birthday alone, just
the bottles of courage
and some music on
an old radio
images of the few
girlfriends of the past
rush by throughout
the night
you can’t help but
think what your life
could have been
sometimes being
passed over is a
blessing
it’s all those other
times that you
understand why
rejection leads to
a lonely death
not everyone can
stomach the bitter
pills

—————————————————-
the part of the contract

i remember
when i was
a child
my mother
told me i
could be
anything i
wanted to
be when i
grew up
she never
told me
about the
fine print
though
the part
of the
contract
where the
powers that
be get to
fuck you
over
whenever
they feel
like it
now
grown up
and slightly
bitter
i’ve never
made the
mistake of
assuming
again
———————————————————–
lost over time

living live as
a cliche
an afterthought
the misunderstood
dreams lost over
time
i tremble every
time i see your
skin
i lose control
whenever my
eyes see that
gaze
i constantly give
into temptation
hopefully one day
you’ll come along
as well
—————————————————————-
upon my desperation

wishing
for your
sweet lips
like an old
man smiles
at the thought
of death
soft skin
pressed
upon my
desperation
these cold
nights were
once so lonely
release
and breathe
the demons
can’t find me
in here
————————————————————–
the key to life

longing for
your lonely
eyes to come
my way
they sadly
never do
sometimes
patience is
mistaken as
indifference
the key to life
is having the
right words
for those
precious
moments
not all of us
were blessed
with a special
tongue
