Poetry from J.J. Campbell

each beat of the heart

a faint
whisper
on a hot
summer
night
the sweat
clinging
to each
beat of
the heart
you always
had piss poor
timing with
goodbyes
sometimes
i think it
would be
easier to
just find
a note than
pretend i
don’t see
you quietly
trying to
shut the
door and
sneak away
————————————————————–

still fighting the war

saw an elected
official say that
blacks hate white
people because
white people
are successful
he quickly
apologized,
i’m sure
after
someone
told him
to
apparently
he got through
school without
ever learning
about slavery
or white privilege
of course,
he does
live in
the south
most whites
down there
are still
fighting
the war
plenty of them
foolishly believe
they still have a
chance to win
—————————————————————————–
strong enough to trick

my desperation
clings to me like
death
they haven’t made
a cologne strong
enough to trick
the rest of the
world yet
in some circles
i’m still young
so i suppose
there’s still
hope
—————————————————————-
one killed, another injured, suspect captured

chaos erupted
just a few miles
from my house
last night
breaking news
alerts about a
police shooting
high speed chases
and plenty of
questions
given the area
i figured the
shooter was
white and
heroin was
probably
involved
i can’t wait to
see the double
standard of
reporting on
this one
————————————————————————-
this toxic reality

dance naked in
the neon morning
light of fairy dust
and sugary euphoric
dreams
frolic in the fields
and believe you
can make it while
being naive
there’s something
magical about not
letting this toxic
reality we are
consumed by
damage you
i would say it
makes you a
better person
but my ego
won’t allow
that
we’ll just settle
on different
but i certainly
wouldn’t mind
seeing your pure
smile when i
wake up in the
morning

  1. Exciting and a sense of reality that I can relate too. Keep your working going and sharing with others.
