Poetry from Emma Bernstein

the stars spread themselves thin, long-bodied,

stitching the sun into the sky,

crisp fold of linen on the window sill,

like the roll of coffee from a pot,

lulling the darkness to sleep,

beckoning the grass to shiver and grow into the sky,

blue melted into green,

all of us humming birds,

all of us fluttering,

leaves drift gently to earth, softly brushing

my eyelashes and fingertips,

the branches tune violins fashioned of wind
