Poetry from Olive Springman

Grace

All the lies of love and war you have been taught

You have been taught

That you will fall gracefully in love

And be caught by a cushion of satin spun lust

But It is not a mating dance but a stumble of genitalia

That trip over each other perpetually

Trying to find smooth edges in which to tenderly intertwine

And if not this anticlimactic circling

Then we will lock eyes one day

i’ve tripped suddenly

Into you by chance or sudden epiphanic vision of fate

And our thread will become undone

and we will sew our seams together

And when I lift the lacy veil off your powered face

We are young and this is the first time I saw you

And what happens so briefly in passing is now so clear

Hair whipping about her collarbone

Jewelry clinking

Hands clutching history books

We will go through alter aisles

In low rise jeans and studded belts

In robish wraps of cream colored lace

Through bustling high school hallways

Always

In grace
