Poetry from Noah Berlatsky

Pendulum Thursday Quilt

Make a quilt

of Thursdays and pendulums

we’re comforted by tedium

and the same words recurring

like pendulums, like Thursdays

like a pattern of words wording

what’s for dinner, how’s your day

who are you texting, we have to leave

now or we’ll miss Thursday

and the words you say on Thursday

and the pendulums that are weaving

of time and time a quilt.

Introduction

At many States/Countries especially in UK, beggars earn substantially good money through their Singing on the public platform.

There are big numbers who earn millions of moneys through begging profession.

These people live a lavish life.

Tax authorities never touch these people.

Beggars are of various types.  Some are small time beggars.

Some are special type beggars.

Some are full time beggars.

Some are professional beggars.

Some are broker beggars.

Most of the full-time beggars and professional beggars even evade tax payments.

For this begging profession, there is no age limit.

Even yudult (those who turn from ‘youth to adult’ are called ‘yudult’. take to begging profession.

Some youth also begs for their livelihood.

Aged and helpless people beg for their bread and butter through various means.

One beggar at a nearby mall, one ‘middle-aged beggar’ sitting leisurely on the platform, keeping a small money pot nearby to his side, wearing a black cooling glass, smoking a cigarette and reading English newspaper.

The beggar did not have any shirt and was only wearing a torn banyan.

The beggar had a short. Pedestrians were surprised by seeing the beggar’s pose of sitting style and reading look at the English newspaper.

Pedestrians thought for a while, about his pleasantness, happiness and comfortably sitting style.

Pedestrians instantaneously, told the co-passenger about the beggar’s style of reading the newspaper.

The beggar looks to be of ‘no worry’ at all.

The beggar looked like having total peace of mind.

On another occasion, the XYZ observed at a “X’ road traffic signal point near the Court mall, that a group of youth, holding small hundies, begging from all the passersby including pedestrians.

When a Pedestrian asked the purpose, the youth who were moving here and there at the mall’s ‘X’ road told that they are collecting money for the help of under-privileged and disabled children/people charity purpose.

The Pedestrian observed several times on several days about this type of begging by youth, who were wearing good dress.

When the Pedestrian enquired about this type of money begging, the Pedestrian was told that there was a racket behind this.

Also, it was told to Pedestrian by the locals, that they earn millions of amounts, by doing this begging.

The Pedestrian was surprised for this type of earning huge amounts.

All this was happening well in front of the Traffic Police Constables.

It looks, that this is the easy way of earning amount.

For this type of begging, there are no permissions required.

There is no time limit for this.

There is no lunch hour.

Even on rainy days, these types of activities go on by wearing rain coats and umbrella.

At some places, street children also beg from all the passersby.

It looks that there is no control over this begging system

The begging is of many types.

Begging for personal gains, begging for institutions sake, begging for collective purpose, begging for charities purpose and begging for daily enjoyment purpose, has become a regular feature.

It is generally observed that regular daily beggars including ladies beg for money at railway stations, bus stands, in the local trains, cinema halls, function places, malls and at many places including at medium size hotels and Churches/Temple places.

Of course, it is a pity about these beggars.

But, what to do?

Many rehabilitation centers, NGO centers and the Government to take up this matter, for eradication of begging by providing an alternative earning for these helpless beggar’s, fancy beggars and professional beggars.

Most of the money is spent on consuming liquor, viewing cinema etc.

Beggars, never habituated to work for salary because the amount received as weekly/monthly salary is not suffice to meet their needs.

Therefore, the money received through begging is unlimited and enormous.

If this is the situation everywhere and unchecked this type of menace, one has to think about the eradication of begging habit and remedies in future.

Local government to set up the rehabilitation center’s for beggar’s purpose.

Measures are to be taken to discard this type of begging menace. Government with the help of NGO’s is to work out strategies to curb this type of menace.

Media, TV channels and other nodal agencies have to come forward to bringing these issues to the notice of the Government for rehabilitation of beggars and there should be Plan of Action for eradication of this type of begging.

Respective Municipal Corporations also to work out for help to establish rehabilitation centers for beggars’ purpose and to bring them on par with normal persons.

In some western countries, begging on roads is banned.

Of course, they are western countries.

We have to work and evolve various strategies to eradicate this begging system.

Some types of suitable Legislation are to be passed for total eradication of begging system.

For this, to streamline, it could take some time.

But, in the meantime necessary and appropriate ‘awareness’ program is to be brought in the minds of beggars.

Essay from Nigirabonu Amirova

Young Central Asian teen girl with her long black hair up in a bun, brown eyes, and a white collared shirt.

THE CURRENT UZBEK LITERARY ENVIRONMENT – IN MY INTERPRETATION.

Samarkand specialized art boarding school

Improvement of the creative environment, originality, creative individuality, uniqueness, and at the same time education of the young generation in the national literary spirit.

Abstract: The improvement of the creative environment, its originality, creative individuality, uniqueness, and at the same time has its influence on the upbringing of the young generation in the national literary spirit. Today, the literary environment is developing more and getting better day by day. In this article, in addition to this, we want to talk about the activities of writers who have been contributing to today’s flourishing literary environment and their creative heritage, as well as the activities of the press and mass media.

Key words: literary environment, newspapers, magazines, press, new literary environment, information flow, political sections, shows.

Therefore, before we cover the current Uzbek literary environment, it can be recognized that the world literary environment has interacted with them.

The influence of the literary environment is not small in the formation of writers who made a great contribution to the development of world literature, as well as writers whose works were read with love in smaller circles. No matter how talented a writer is, not only the educational institutions he studied in, but also the literary environment he was involved in are of great importance in the formation of his worldview and the development of his artistic skills. First of all, let’s get acquainted with the current press activity.

There are 19 republican newspapers and 2 regional newspapers in Tashkent. (“Tashkent Hakikati”, “Tashkentskaya Pravda” “The reality of Tashkent”), 2 city newspapers (“Tashkent okshomi”, “Vecherniy Tashkent” “Tashkent evening”), 44 mass circulation newspapers are published. 62 of the 67 magazines published in the republic are published in Tashkent. 4 information agencies operate in Tashkent. Most of the publishing houses in Uzbekistan are located in Tashkent. Radio Tashkent occupies a leading position in radio broadcasting of Uzbekistan. For radio listeners of Tashkent city and region, broadcasts prepared by the chief editorial office of Tashkent city and Tashkent region radio stations are broadcasted every day (since 1971). The editor-in-chief has informational and socio-political departments. The editor-in-chief of Tashkent TV studio programs for residents of Tashkent city and Tashkent region prepares special program series.

TASHKENT.

Poets and writers from Tashkent will have the opportunity to publish their works in “Al-Isloh” magazine, “Taraqqi”, “Khurshid”, “Shuhrat”, “Tujjor”, “Asiyo”, “Sadoyi Turkistan” newspapers. At the moment, book publishing is underway, and various books and collections are being published.

KHORASM.

The Khorezm literary environment has been one of the components of Uzbek national literature. Therefore, the general characteristics and principles of each period were reflected in the oasis literature to a certain extent. Of course, Jadidism, which is considered a phenomenon of national awakening, is not an exception. Therefore, Jadidism and its literary direction have their own history in this region. This history began with the work of Kamil Khorezmi and reached its peak in the work of Avaz, and these life-giving ideas were continued by their followers into a new reality.

ANDIJAN

Andijan is one of the regional cultural centers with its ancient traditions, which has delivered many great artists, writers and poets to our national culture, and whose cultural life is still very lively. The organizational center of the literary process is the regional branch of the Union of Writers, literary life is connected with the activities of local press publications and educational institutions. At present, well-known writers and poets such as Olimjon Khaldor, Tolan Nizam, Tursunoy Sadiqova, Zamira Rozieva, Farid Usman, Nabi Jaloliddin, Khurshidabanu live and work in Andijan. In particular, Nabi Jalaluddin’s novels “Khayyom” and “The Mill” about Cholpon became a significant event in Uzbek literature.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, the capital city of Tashkent not only attracts famous writers and poets to its home, but also has an impact on their creative development. The reason is that many publications and books take a long time to be prepared in Tashkent, from being ready to being copied. In this process, it is appropriate for the author to work in Tashkent, but the emergence of publishing houses in some regions has become a problem for authors from such regions.

As for the modern literature of the literary environment, an impartial study of it on a regional scale allows to clarify some of its controversial aspects, to understand and re-evaluate its socio-aesthetic essence based on the ideology of independence, and to expand the existing ideas about the literary process of that time. In this place, the Khorezm literary environment can undoubtedly be one of the research objects.

Poetry from Anna Ferriero

M’INNAMORAI
Le sue onde un dì osservai
e fra pagine inattese
il mio cuore ritrovai.
All’istante le inspirai
e con molta deferenza
un verso mi colpì:
il mio animo blandì.
Senza inganno mi rapì
quel silenzio senza eguali
da una lacrima sbocciato
e del canto suo innevato
dell’Amor m’innamorai

I FELL IN LOVE
One day I observed its waves
and between unexpected pages
I found my heart again.
I instantly breathed them in
and with much deference
a verse struck me:
my soul coaxed.
Without deception he kidnapped me
that silence without equal
from a tear blossomed
and its snow-covered song
I fell in love with love
***
SIGNOR UCCELLO
Ribelle e traditore
ermetico il suo sguardo
innocuo,
dai mortali maledetto,
fuggitivi al suo segnale.
Di angoscia e pestilenza
degli amori intollerante
a notte fonda, nel gran gelo
è il Signor dell’Arizona.
Fra egiziani e persiani
è la luna della morte
vagando con un’ascia
sino al mar della Nigeria
in cerca d’accoglienza, senza fiato
sottoforma di un Apache.
Ciondoli e tamburi
onorano il Gran Capo
fra danze e lunghi versi
benedice i suoi seguaci,
i poeti della notte

MR BIRD
Rebel and traitor
his gaze hermetic
harmless,
cursed by mortals,
fugitives at his signal.
Of anguish and pestilence
of intolerant loves
late at night, in the great cold
he is the Lord of Arizona.
Between Egyptians and Persians
it is the moon of death
wandering with an axe
up to the Nigerian Sea
looking for welcome, breathless
in the form of an Apache.
Pendants and drums
they honor the Great Chief
between dances and long verses
blesses his followers,
the poets of the night

Poetry and Prose from Catherine Arra

Don’t Ever Touch a Wounded Animal

The black Lab bolted from the girl’s side, leapt the six steps from porch to yard, galloped full thunder, hind legs tumbling up and under like a panther in open throttle. A barking black streak of lightning running toward the horse and rider walking idly on the opposite side of the rural main street.

The girl sprang upright, screamed, “Teddy, no!” but raw instinct is deaf. Louder.

“No. Stop. No. No!” An echo in an endless last moment.

Wheels burned pavement. A fleshy thump. The unfurling howl. Then another and another, like wolf cries in a hollow night, a fire horn, “Help me, help me.”

“Mom!” the girl hollered into the house. “Teddy’s been hit!” And ran too, full thunder to the street.

The car had stopped, pulled aside; the horse and rider were specks in the distance. The dog lay on its side, nose pointed home, brown eyes looking up at the girl, blood streaming from his mouth, the O-shaped howl quieting.

She dropped to her knees, ready to trade a piece of her life to save his, to hold and heal him whole again. A thick-knuckled hand grabbed her arm, yanked her away. It was the man who had struck the dog. “No, sweetheart. Don’t ever touch a wounded animal.”

“He won’t hurt me,” she said, and pulled away, turning back, kneeling, reaching; the brown eyes seeing her, recognizing, the panic and confusion retreating, and then the cold glass stare.

She covered him in blind weeping.

The mother arrived. The man in his damaged car left without demand, weeping too, someone said. The grandfather buried the dog near the girl’s kitten. The girl went to her room.

When the father and two sons returned from the afternoon motorcycle races, the mother told them. The father retreated to the family room and sat on the edge of an ottoman. The girl followed and sat nearby. He stared wide, and then his eyes pooled with tears that wouldn’t stop. His shoulders curled inward. His head fell. And he too howled. The girl had never seen him cry. She didn’t know he could. She couldn’t take her eyes away.

He straightened against her piercing awareness, attempted composure, failed, and hardened in a full body turn. “What the hell are you looking at?” he bellowed into her face, then broke down again, gulping, “What’s the matter with you? Don’t you have any feelings?”

Nectar

         for A

You are the bumblebee

in lavender, kissing periwinkle spikes,

making lacey stems sway in a July morning,

moist with humidity and dew.

Your search for nectar, endless,

your purpose in greater nature, unknown.

Like this, you found me

in a pollinating circuit of cyberspace.

“Thoroughly enjoyed your poems,” you wrote,

quoted lines, named publications.

“Who are you?” I asked.

And so began our mutual love

of words, ideas, beauty, art

in a thousand floral taps and scripts,

exchanged poems, edits,

in miles of personal history

with no regard for the consequence

of falling in love, until

the prosaic punch of your marriage, our distance,

the sting of secrets and denial

ended summer’s brief affair between

a yearning bee and a waiting flower.
