He Made All Things – poetry of Emanuel Nwodo

HE MADE ALL WE SEE
SUN, TIDE AND THE SEA
DAWN, SKY AND THE BEE
ALL WE FEEL AND SEE
CONCEIVED HE CALLED THY NAME
BORE MOTHER THROUGH HER PAIN
ENSURE THOU ART SAFE AND SANE
IN DUE TIME MAKE SHINE AND RAIN
HE IS GOD, YOUNG, OLD AND SAME

WE SIN, SMILE AND MOURN
HE – FATHER’S ONLY SON
BUT FOR US NEEDN’T COME
LIKE MAN ON EARTH SOJOURN
REJECTED, CROWNED WITH THORNS
SUFFERED, CRIED, DIED AND WON
FATHER’S LOVE FOR US THE SONS.
WE ALL ARE SINNERS
IN REMORSE LETS COME TO GOD
HE FORGETS ALL AND RENEWS OUR WORLD
YOU’RE WELCOME INTO THE WORLD OF WINNERS.

Artist’s Statement:
My name is Emmanuel Ikenna Nwodo. Born at Agbani in Nkanu West L.G.A of Enugu State, Nigeria; May 27th 1987 into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Bethland Nwani. I am the fifth son of five. My father died when I was six months old. Before he passed on, he was a butcher, though with formal education. He was diagnosed with poisoning and … well the dead are dead. I had my primary education partly in my village (COMMUNITY CENTRAL SCHOOL EZIOKWE AMURRI) Then rounded up at OGBE-ORIE PRIMARY SCHOOL ASABA, THE CAPITAL CITY OF DELTA STATE, NIGERIA. Which was also where I began my secondary education ST. AUGUSTINE COMMERCIAL SCHOOL ASABA and then I rounded-up at KINGS AND QUEENS COLLEGE UBIAJAH, EDO STATE, NIGERIA in the year 2005.

After my secondary education I could not go further into a Tertiary Institution due to lack of funds.
To avoid idleness I sought a teaching job in an extra moral lesson centre (Success Academy) Where I lectured on Physics and Mathematics till March 2007 when I enrolled in a computer training institute. After 6 months of training and 2 months of Industrial Training I was employed by the same institution as a Ms-Word and Ms-DOS tutor. Also I had training on computer repairs/maintenance,  which is the knowledge with which I now strive to make ends meet.

I ventured into writing in the year 2005 though I must admit that unlike most Nigerians, I never received lectures on literature in secondary school.
Along with my dream to become a graduate of Computer Engineering, I greatly admire writing as a hobby. Some friends tried to explain how impossible it could be to integrate “Science and Art,” as they tagged it. But those words are for the mind that’s still open to give in to others’ opinions. After all Luke was a Physician Until God made him a writer. Moreover, I was writing for fun and not for funds.

Starting was not easy so I bought some annotations which I read to note how renowned poets express their thoughts literally. Yet it was not easy. But, glory be to God, where I am is not where I began. I now write poems, short plays and songs. A few of my songs have been sung by some talented musicians.
