Poetry from J.J. Campbell

they are only expecting crazy

the joy of
being the
creepy old
fuck sitting
alone
scribbling
in a notebook
looking
disinterested
in the world
when they are
only expecting
crazy, you can
get away with
so much more
imagine if i
cared enough
to try

—————————————————————-
meeting the father

resist the urge
to punch him
right in the
face
there will be
a time for that
pretend you
give two shits
about the
government
and world
politics
know just
enough about
everything
so he gives
a blessing
not that
that means
anything to
either of you
society still
rules in these
parts of the
world
————————————————————
something other than dread

it’s been years
since i have
looked into
the eyes of a
woman and
saw something
other than
dread
it’s not easy to
continue to wake
up each morning
knowing that
i’m not saying
i deserve a medal
or something
but perhaps a
kind soul can
grace me one
day with a
patient ear and
an understanding
of the imagination
sometimes
the myths can
smother what
little truth
deserves
to exist
———————————————————
reality always reminds me

waste away
i often dream
that i enjoy
this life
but reality
always reminds
me that i can’t
sleep forever
probably not
even when i’m
dead
that why i’ve
asked to be
cremated
increase my
odds
————————————————————
all the love you have ever imagined

paint this neon
soul with all the
love you have
ever imagined
dance with me
in a thunderstorm
in the middle
of nowhere
a lost highway
that doesn’t
understand
regret or
mistakes
i just want
to enjoy one
moment of
looking into
your eyes
and feeling
that love
actually
exists
