Call for Content – Journal of Renga & Renku

Hello

We’re ready to begin accepting offers of content for the first issue of Journal
of
Renga & Renku. While some details remain to be ironed out, the journal will be:

1. published near the end of 2010
2. available in hardcopy only
3. available for purchase online using Paypal

We’re looking for a variety of content along the lines of:

1. Academic/polemic articles on any aspects of the genre

2. Translations of old renga and renku

3. News of renku groups and happenings

4. Book articles/reviews

5. and of course, a showcase of current examples of the genre:

a) in English

b) in any other language, accompanied by an English translation

c) previously published or not (just let us have details of prior publication so
we can
acknowledge properly)

d) simultaneous offers are fine too, again provided you advise us of prior
publication
for purposes of acknowledgement

e) in any of the standard forms: kasen, triparshva, nijûin, jûnichô, shisan,
rokku,
hyakuin, yotsumono, etc.

f) in any explorations of the above forms in terms of experimentation with
one-line,
zip, 5/7/5 or other fixed counts and even rhyme

g) solo and group work

h) with (preferably) or without notes/reflections on the poem/process from
sabaki or
renju or both

6. We are also considering holding a contest, but have not finalised our
thinking on
that. Please send us any ideas you may have and/or indication as to whether
you’d
be interested in entering and/or reading the results

7. We’re open to discussing content ideas we’ve not covered above so please
write

8. All communications will be acknowledged within one week

9. We are regretfully unable to pay contributors for content at this stage

Chroma, LLC is seeking art for current and upcoming exhibits.

Call for 2D & wall mountable 3D works. Professionally framed &/or presented. Paintings, works on paper, multi-media, wall mountable sculpture, drawings, printmaking, conceptual… Works must be original. No nudity. Edgy, urban, vibrant colors, contemporary/modern preferred.

Size limit: 8 ft vertical x 5ft wide &/or 8ft horizontal x 5ft high

We are a new Arts organization specializing in Art Consulting and Artists’ Consulting services. Art and artists will be kept on file for current and upcoming events, shows. Spaces include but are not limited to high end commercial spaces in the Portland Metro Area.

Submission Guidelines: Please email us as soon as possible with your proposed works to show. New work preferred. Send high resolution jpgs (up to 10 per artist), link to website/blog, and artist documents (bio, resume, artist statement) to info.chromaproject@gmail.com. One Forty Fiction is a website dedicated to stories that stick to a limit of 140 characters (spaces included). Stories told with beginnings, middles, and ends, and characters who want things.

But how to tell such stories in such limited space? How to create love, and want, and derision in 140 characters? How to deliver your heart?

We have no answer for you. We just know that you have 140 characters to make us see, feel, live, & yearn for the world beyond your 140.

Give us all you got. But give it to us wrapped tight, a Big Bang of a universe, a history of life itself, communicated wisely, and with love.

And if you’re feeling saucy, don’t be afraid to bring the jazz & funk.

Quiddity, an international literary journal and public-radio program, is presently reading for its fall 2011 issue. Works accepted may be featured on the public-radio program (NPR member and PRI affiliate). International submissions are encouraged.

Submission Guidelines:
~ Prose: one work (no more than 5,000 words)
~ Poetry: up to five poems (no more than ten pages total)
~ Include complete contact information in the cover letter.
~ Please be sure your name is listed on each page of the work. You may list contact information on each page as well, if you wish.
~ U.S.submissions should include both an email address and a self-addressed, business-size (#10), stamped envelope (SASE).
~ International submissions should include an email address to which an electronic reply may be sent.
~ Work must be previously unpublished. All manuscripts will be recycled.

We accept simultaneous submissions but require notification immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere. Work submitted must fit the guidelines listed above.
Quiddity’s international literary journal is a publication of Benedictine University at Springfield.It is published semi-annually in April and October. Quiddity’s companion public-radio program is produced by Illinois Public Radio’s hub station, WUIS/WIPA, NPR member and PRI affiliate.

Contributors may be invited to read their work for the public-radio program.

All are invited to Synchronized Chaos Magazine’s semiannual reception, held this time at San Francisco’s Muddy Waters Cafe, 521 Valencia Street, Friday July 30th, drop-in from 5 to 10 pm. Come network and meet our writers and artists and cultural creatives! All are invited, this event’s open to the public and welcomes people of all ages and interests. Think of it as a career networking event, social gathering, art and writing reception, singles’ event, couples’ night out, all at the same time!

Muddy Waters is a friendly, laid-back coffeehouse with snacks, coffee drinks of all varieties, and no need to dress up 😉 Yuppies, hippies, and students and normal folks all welcome, come on out and network and chill and meet some of the artists and writers of Synchronized Chaos Magazine! Please comment if you’re interested in carpooling or need a ride, or if there’s anything else we can do to help you get here as we would be excited and honored to see all of you! And the Mission is not that dangerous at night…I know plenty of people, including plenty of women, who feel very comfortable here. There will be a large crowd in a well-lighted atmosphere.

H.O.D. (A Handful Of Dust) is seeking poetry and artwork for its second issue scheduled for October 31, 2010. While H.O.D. has no theme or limits, its editor would like to see more work that is grounded in grit-lit. The date of publication does not suggest an overall theme, but the editor will pretty much read anything (including horror). The journal is also open to flash and micro-fiction than can double as good prose poetry. Submit 3-5 poems and a cover letter in the body of an e-mail to: h.o.d.submissionsATgmailDOTcom.

H.O.D. is also open to Artwork submissions, from b&w photography to pencil (or ink) sketches. Check the new issue for an idea of what the editor wants. Submit 1-3 pieces as low-res jpegs to: <h.o.d.submissions(at)gmail.com> (replace (at) with @).

BOOK PROJECT: Immortality

For a new book project to be published by Southern Methodist University Press, entitled “Immortality,” we’re seeking new essays from a variety of perspectives on recent scientific developments and the likelihood, merits and ramifications of biological immortality. We’re looking for essays by writers, physicians, scientists, philosophers, clergy–anyone with an imagination, a vision of the future, and a dream (or fear) of living forever.

Essays must be vivid and dramatic; they should combine a strong and compelling narrative with a significant element of research or information, and reach for some universal or deeper meaning in personal experiences. We’re looking for well-written prose, rich with detail and a distinctive voice.

Guidelines: Essays must be: unpublished, 5,000 words or less, postmarked by August 6, 2010, and clearly marked “Immortality” on both the essay and the outside of the envelope.
