Poetry from Frederick Schardt

Blooming Over Broadway

Bloom-di-di bloom!
Blowing Lee Konitz
zoots by the morning window
shine, shunned by no one except
the one who knows no fun,
there he leaps into the eternal blue sky,
quickened rain and soft clouds of spring,
maneuvers with perfection
in perfect harmony with the seasons,
so he knows grace,
so he knows mercy,
so he knows charity,
he is mad and loud,
infinite and proud soul-work
accomplished for the sake of a proof,
earnest the way is forward.

Frederick Schardt is a writer and poet from North Carolina. He studied Comparative Literature and Philosophy at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and now lives in Los Angeles. His work has appeared in Maudlin House, Nelligan Review, and Cathexis Northwest Press.
