Poetry from Imène Daoud

Sailing in the Cities of My Language

A moment of clarity

Windowed in my blood

Unnamed windows

And the heart awoke

Like a being

 Dragging its name

From nothingness

The pulse widened

Reading itself

  For the first time

And pierced me

Like an idea learning

How to become a body

Passed through my veins

Like a wave

In its secrets

 I sailed

In the cities

 of my language

Roaded in rhymes

And saw houses

 Of letters

Shedding

 their rigidity

And doors of pearls

That open

 Only with the depth

 of meaning

And domes of words

 that gleam

And conceal

 what they say

I declared

 my passion

In a language

 that sparkles

In the seas

of languages

And I saw my words

Swaying with

the waves of lines

Whenever my ink

called to them

I stood between

a question

That cannot

 be answered

And a voice

that writes me

Then denies me

I am not the owner

of the story

But I am a story

For a lover of letters

Wandered

 In the gardens

 of the letter ‘Dhad’

And drew from

its splendor

Baskets of roses.
