Poetry from J.J. Campbell

the glorious sound

silence

the glorious
sound of the
brain turning
off all the
electronic
noise

some of us
go insane
inside of it

some can’t
live without
it

and a few
lucky ones
get to enjoy
it

i close my
eyes and
let my
imagination
take over

something
these kids
know nothing
about

———————————————————————-
into an ocean of doubt

the neon soul
breaks with
each turn of
the screw

tighten the
nerves to the
point of no
return

pushed into
an ocean of
doubt without
the ability to
swim

line up all
the empty
bottles and
see how many
you can break
with just your
mind

tempting fate
with each word
that leaps from
your mouth

that serpent
tongue

laugh at all
these lost sheep
looking at you
like the one

collect and go
bring back the
thimble
——————————————————————–
smile at the pain

long legs dance
in my mind in a
beautiful tango
every night

faces of old
lovers and sexy
regrets remind
me that once i
did have a life

i look at all these
scars and smile
at the pain

the romantic
somehow still
believes that true
love is out there
somewhere

the old drunk that
is becoming me
knows she was
mistakenly killed
years ago

the bullet was
always intended
for me

god is one cruel
son of a bitch
————————————————————————-
blow out the candle

you can see the sun
coming through the
window blinds

blow out the candle

she’s not coming
home

there will come a
day that you will
forget to light
that candle

could be years

could be a few
weeks

whenever it
happens

you’ll know it’s
time to move on

the death of chuck berry

some people
pick up a guitar
and just realize
it was meant
to be

those people
work their
asses off to
become great

and the rest
of us are smart
enough to hand
the guitar back
and enjoy the
brilliance of
someone else

long live
the king

the sweet
licks of a
dirty old
man

somewhere
chuck just
smiled
