Poetry from Jacques Fleury

Hills and Valleys

[Originally published in

GREEN GLOBE ANTHOLOGY: EDITED BY

SOURAV SARKAR ]

Rolling down a hill in slow motion

O’er the jagged rocks and pebbles

Plummeting to a yawning valley

Left alone to ruminate on my journey

I find myself famished for mothering marrow from things inside

yet I am a constant consumer of souring sorrows from things outside

thinking maybe I should pick a side

in the quiet corridors of the mind

the heart keeps secrets in its walls

in chambers deep where no one goes

sacred spaces unbound

as hills and valleys sing

a universe untold

conscious through the darkness

the truest version of me knows

as splendid silver wings unfold

the person held within my soul.

Young adult Black man with short shaved hair, a big smile, and a suit and purple tie.
