Poetry from Stephen Jarrell Williams

Ready

Waking up

to another day

sitting in my mother’s

rocking chair

air on

cooling my shoulders

feeling good

snuggling into myself

ready

before the world

tries to force

my attention

back into the blackness

spin of dizzying sin.

My memories

making me smile

something to live for

another day in the dreams

of an old man

helping the horizon up

rocking slow

and powerful

in yesterday

ready

for today.
