Sun Gallery – Day of the Dead- related call for submissions of visual art

Hello Artists of the Greater Bay Area,

The Sun Gallery in Hayward is sending a Call for Art for:

The Day of the DeadA Step to Eternity: Un Paso a la Eternidad

In honor of the 100-year anniversary of the Mexican revolution, in which approximately one million people died to replace the dictator Porfirio Diaz in order to create a Constitutional republic, this year’s theme of the Day of the Dead is based on revolution and change or death as the price for liberty.

Show Dates: Oct. 20 – Nov 13, 2010

1015 E Street, Hayward CA 94541

The Sun Gallery is planning our Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) Exhibit from Oct. 20-Nov.13. We are inviting emerging and prominent artists from our local area as well as the greater Bay Area. We realize there is a lot of competition in the Bay Area for artists for this festival, but we hope you will consider our non-profit gallery as a worthy cause!

The submission fee for this show is $35 without membership purchase and $20 to display if you purchase a membership or are already a member. Group submissions from High School art teachers will be free. Individual artists may submit up to six pieces for a space no larger than 5’ x 5’.

The gallery will be using an extensive mailing list for publicity. A reception for the artists and public is scheduled on Saturday Nov. 6, from 3 pm to 7 pm.

Drop off of artworks will start on Wed. Oct. 13, and should be in no later than Sat. Oct. 16th. Take down will be scheduled for Tues. Nov. 16, and completed by Sat. Nov. 20th.

If you are interested in participating, please respond to the above email address with digital photos of your work (or your website).  Gallery staff will get back to you.

If you are interested in volunteering to help at this event, please contact Sun Gallery or Orlando Somoza.

Thank You,
