More on Thanksgiving, from Patsy Ledbetter

I love Thanksgiving because it is all about family and being thankful.  Turkey just happens to be one of my favorite foods.  I love it for two reasons.  I love the way it tastes and I love the fact that it contains tryptophan which helps me to sleep.

For twenty years, we have had a Thanksgiving tradition.  Starting on Thanksgiving day, we spend four days at Mt. Hermon, a Christian camp in the Santa Cruz mountains.  There is food, fellowship, great music, great speakers and a chance for us moms to celebrate the holiday without any work.  Since my family does not like to camp, it is my only chance all year to get them out into the mountains.

We have had many wonderful experiences there and some scary ones.  My son once broke his arm there and once we couldn’t find him for hours.  We have laughed there till we cried and were given courage by the speakers to make changes in our lives.

The greatest thing about Thanksgiving is that our loving, eternal God constantly shows us new ways we can express our gratefulness to Him and to one another.  We give Him praise and encourage each other. We also are inspired to help those who are less fortunate.  Thank-you Lord for giving us this wonderful holiday to enjoy.
