Poetry from Ridwanullah Solahudeen O.

MET IJEOMA

This is Ije,
She's the radiance in the solar,
She came tonight
And the stars came too,
To envy the sky basking in her light
She was the moon

Do you know?
The black domes in her eyes
Told me I was due for a hajj
Obiaruku, Abraka—
Makkah, Madinah, to where, the call, I'll heed
Days have a way of crawling into our nights
Like a drunkard I got high on her excess
Only to daydream of her
Like spoken verses for Subh at Asr
